Fault-finding practice
Electrical Fault-Finding Practice Online
Find the 2 Faults in WireMate Pro. Test an eight-circuit installation model, record measurements, support two diagnoses, then repair and retest.
Find the 2 Faults is included with Pro at $9.99 AUD/month.

Why it helps
Understand the circuit before testing your prediction.
Start with exactly two hidden faults in an installation model. Complete the simulated isolation and instrument checks, then inspect the board and take measurements. Keep the board and meter together while testing, with separate tabs for your worksheet and diagnoses.
Skills
Fault-finding areas to practise
Preparation
Complete the bench's simulated isolation and instrument checks before recording the required tests.
Earth continuity
Follow the protective conductor from the earth bar to the selected equipment test point.
Insulation resistance
Choose the IR instrument and test pair, then compare the reading with that worksheet row's criterion.
Polarity and connections
Use the stated switch and link settings to check whether the intended conductors are connected.
Probes and ranges
Place both probes on labelled terminals and check the instrument mode and units before measuring.
Test-sheet interpretation
Record the captured reading and explain what it means using the row's declared training limit.
Two diagnoses
Support each suspected fault with captured measurements instead of relying only on visible symptoms.
Repair and retest
Apply the simulated repairs, repeat the requested tests and compare them with the preserved original results.
Worked simulation example
Turn a meter reading into evidence
Open Find the 2 Faults in Pro and choose Guided practice. Each attempt has two hidden faults; the example below describes the investigation method without revealing a fault location.
1. Choose a worksheet test
Complete the virtual preparation checks, then read the selected row's test points, instrument and required switch/link settings.
2. Capture and interpret
Take the simulated measurement and record it. Compare its units and result with that row's criterion before marking your interpretation.
3. Test your explanation
Use another relevant measurement to narrow the location, support both diagnoses, then submit and complete the repair/retest stage.
What to look for: A useful record connects the measured result, the exact test setup and the suspected fault. Retest evidence is kept separately so you can compare before and after.
An unexpected reading alone does not identify every possible fault. The worksheet uses declared training-model criteria; its results are not a compliance certificate or a test of real equipment.
Real simulator visual
From the test bench to your diagnosis
The updated bench gives the installation board its own zoom controls and keeps the meter alongside it on desktop. Guided practice includes method hints; assessment practice keeps feedback until submission. Both preserve the original results for review.

Quick answers
Common questions
Can WireMate help with fault-finding practice?
Yes. Find the 2 Faults is included with WireMate Pro. It combines an installation model, virtual instruments, an interactive test sheet, evidence-supported diagnoses and a repair/retest stage.
Does WireMate tell me what to do on a real job?
No. WireMate is educational practice only. Real electrical work must follow licensed supervision, standards and site safety procedures.
Why practise fault-finding online?
Online practice gives apprentices more repetition. They can slow down, make mistakes and rebuild their understanding before working on real equipment.
